POSITION SUMMARY The School Registered Nurse (Complex RN) will support and assist Complex Area and school administration to establish safety protocols to reduce the spread of infectious disease (such as COVID-19), coordinate with the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH), expand the access to care including telehealth and on site health services and provide education programs. School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with a specialized component that promotes the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The school nurse is called upon to work closely with teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, school administrators, Hawaii Keiki team, and support the school health assistant (SHA) to carry out a wide range of school health activities.

Meeting of the employees professional responsibility will be in line with the duties described below and in coordination with the Employees supervisor.

10 Month Employee: Will follow the HIDOE Teacher Schedule. While the Employee is not required to report to the school or complex area superintendents office when DOE schools are closed, it is expected that the employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the program which will include attendance at scheduled meetings during non-student days.

Location: King Kamehameha III Elementary School, Maui (Home School Location)and serves Lanai High and Elementary School (Lanai) and occasionally the Hana-Lahainaluna-Lanai Molokai(HLLM)Complex Area Full-Time Mon-Fri 7:30am - 3:30pm, 10 Month Employee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training and Experience:

  • A bachelors or equivalent degree in nursing or health related field

  • Experience with the use of electronic health records and program reporting

  • Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii; or ability to sit for NCLEX exam within 180 days of graduation, in accordance with Executive Order 20-04

  • One year of experience in community-based health settings, school nursing, or pediatric nursing; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

  • BLS for healthcare provider certification

  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules, regulations, and compliance.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for blood borne pathogens.
