Summary About the position: This position is located at the Auto Hobby Facility on RAF Lakenheath, UK. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Scheduled hours will be 0-40 per week with no minimum guaranteed per week. Responsibilities The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to automotive personnel and customers, perform the simpler and more routine automotive maintenance duties and assist in the Tire and Lube Center operations. Assists with the maintenance and repair of automotive engines, parts and accessories. Provide assistance with tune-up and troubleshooting and inspection of various types of vehicles, their components and systems. Operates automatic tires change, electronic spin balancer, power brake bleeder, and various standard engine tune-ups and troubleshooting tools and equipment. Assists with issuing, receiving, storing and accounting for various types of automotive parts and equipment for resale to customers. Offers patrons advice, consultation, quotes, appointments and inspections as required. As needed, issues, receives and schedules use of equipment, tools and repair/paint stalls for DIY patrons. Uses chit or other parts assignment system for accountability of assigned tools. Determines type of repair job involved and suggests a variety of tools needed to accomplish the repair. Provides instructions to customers on cleaning processes, soiled rag disposal, sweeping and clean up of repair or pit stall and removal of excess automotive parts. Ensures tools turned-in are clean, assesses breakage or damage if any; charging customer for tools according to prescribed price listing. Assists in end-of-month inventories of stock by counting items in storage areas. Ensures that supplies and equipment are safeguarded and secure at all times. May operate a government vehicle to perform duties such as, vehicle lock outs, jump starts, road side assistance, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be familiar with engine analyzers, front end alignment machine, hand tools, automotive test equipment and brake turning equipment. Must be able to read and interpret repair manuals. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
