WSP USA Early Career Water Resources Engineer in Lakewood, Colorado
This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a highly motivated Early Career Water Resources Engineer to join our team in our Lakewood, CO office. Other WSP locations may be considered for the right candidate. You will be engaged with multiple mining projects nationally and globally in providing stormwater management solutions. Tasks may include hydraulic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design, fieldwork, project planning, facilitating communication, data analysis, design, drawing preparation, permitting support, and construction administration. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions and recommendations for engineering and design projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
Performs specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide long-term stormwater management solutions for mining facilities for existing and potential clients
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design
Prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references
Assist with the development of civil reports, drawings and specifications
Prepare reservoir and pond designs including geosynthetic lining, leak detection/collection systems, breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways
Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric-formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control
Work with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings including grading, drainage and roadway plans, profiles, details, and sections
Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule
Interact with clients, subcontractors, and other business partners in a confident and professional
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
0 to 3 years of relevant work experience in water resources engineering.
Proficient knowledge of stormwater evaluation and design engineering principles, practices, process (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design)
Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Engineering with a focus on Hydrology/Hydraulics
Engineer in Training Certification
Basic knowledge of industry software programs (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D)
Experience with frequency storm and probable maximum precipitation hydrologic analyses
Experience with hydraulic analyses and design of channels, culverts, bridges, flow measurement, and flood mapping
Field/Construction experience, basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $56,300 - $87,120
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
