Public Buildings Service Environmental Protection Specialist in Lakewood, Colorado

Summary As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will serve as the technical program expert for environmental management/health and safety issues. The responsibilities are to develop, implement and provide guidance to management officials and Public Buildings Service staff. Location of position: Public Buildings Service, Facilities Management Division, Region 8 Rocky Mountain Region Lakewood, CO. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed. Responsibilities The major duties for this position include but are not limited to the following: Participates in field evaluations and site surveys/assessments for facility/site environmental compliance, environmental health and safety, and industrial hygiene program areas. Conducts and coordinates environmental testing and surveys of essential resources, such as air and water. Provides recommendations and technical assistance for the most feasible corrective measures for the environmental hazard, complying with applicable regulations, including preparation of project documents and risk-based justification and potential health impact of occupants or the environment if not mitigated. Develops and implements regional guidelines, policies, technical guides, program and procedures relative to program elements and various other organizational areas in order to provide a workplace with acceptable environmental risks. Develops plans and specifications for environmental protection systems, programs, and projects (e.g., radon mitigation systems, lead paint testing procedures and containment systems, testing and sampling strategies, water purification systems, etc.), analyzing known and potential problem areas that may develop. Prepares detailed recommendations for solutions to such problems or alternate courses of action in accordance with professional engineering principles and techniques. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work performed with federal, state and local government in coordinating and implementing environmental and safety programs in the following areas: hazardous/material waste, air quality, environmental management systems and water quality programs.
