LOCATION: Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster PA

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours per week). Monday-Friday (8am-5pm)

POSITION SUMMARY:

This patient-centered position positively influences the adoption of advanced nursing practice and workflows through the strategic integration of technology and informatics solutions. This role serves as a subject matter expert, working closely with nursing leadership, clinicians, other multidisciplinary teams, and IT (Information Technology) professionals to leverage healthcare technology to optimize the use of clinical information systems and drive quality initiatives across the organization. As part of the nursing leadership team and proactive agent of change, this role fosters communication between nursing and other key stakeholders driving positive change and advancement in healthcare delivery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Work closely with nursing leadership, IT professionals and/or other key stakeholders to identify opportunities using technology to enhance nursing practice and improve patient care.

  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff and the IT department, facilitating communication and collaboration to ensure that initiatives align with nursing priorities and workflows.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on nursing informatics by staying current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to nursing practice and healthcare technology.

  • Provide guidance and support to nursing staff on the use of electronic health record (EHR) systems, clinical decision support tools, computerized provider order entry (CPOE), and other digital healthcare technologies.

  • Participate in the design, implementation, and optimization of clinical workflows within the EHR system to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct workflow analysis and identify opportunities for process improvement, working collaboratively with nursing staff and IT professionals to implement changes and enhancements.

  • Develop and deliver educational materials to support nursing staff in the adoption and utilization of new technology tools and workflows.

  • Provide ongoing training and support to ensure that nursing staff are proficient in the use of clinical informatics systems and tools, including new software releases and updates.

  • Analyze data from clinical informatics systems, including EHRs, to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement in nursing practice and patient outcomes.

  • Generate reports and dashboards to communicate key metrics and performance indicators related to nursing practice, clinical quality, and patient safety.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based protocols and best practices related to clinical informatics and nursing informatics.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety initiatives, leveraging clinical informatics tools and data to drive positive outcomes.

  • Champion emerging trends and best practices in clinical informatics, nursing informatics, and healthcare technology, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Participate in professional development activities, including conferences, workshops, and webinars, to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of clinical informatics.

  • Participates in off hour responsibilities for this position as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS and EXPECTATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse, issued by the PA State Board of Nursing required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience with a strong understanding of nursing workflows and practices

  • Three (3) years of experience in clinical/nursing informatics with demonstrated experience with electronic medical record (EMR) and other clinical tools

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills

  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.

  • Obtain and maintain an Epic certification and/or obtain within 1 year of hire

  • Obtain and maintain an Informatics Certification from ANCC and/or obtain within 1 year of hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters in a related field preferred

  • Three (3) years’ experience managing multiple concurrent projects with excellent problem solving skills and ability to use independent judgement
