The Microsoft Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Healthcare team has an immediate opening for a product attorney in the role of Corporate Counsel - Health & Life Sciences to support Microsoft’s growing health and life sciences business.
This is a unique opportunity for an attorney to partner with our engineering clients on AI and other product development issues, serving as a trusted legal advisor to help ensure our growing healthcare business can scale internationally while remaining compliant.
The Healthcare CELA team supports the Health and Life Sciences Solutions and Platform team (HLS S&P). HLS S&P, which was formed in 2023 following Microsoft’s acquisition of Nuance Communications, is focused on driving growth for a combination of first and third-party products.
Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the HLS S&P business team and advise on regulations applicable to Microsoft’s healthcare business and/or that of our customers as regulated healthcare entities. Partner across the Healthcare team to provide advice grounded in an understanding of how relevant laws and regulations may impact Microsoft’s fast-growing business while accounting for the business’ transition to Microsoft’s scale motion.
Collaborate with numerous Microsoft subject-matter experts (SMEs) to interpret compliance requirements for the business and recommend a clear course of action to senior-level business leaders in a clear and concise manner.
Maintain trusted advisor relationships with business clients and executives.
Monitor business activity to understand clients’ strategy and assist them in developing creative solutions to mitigate potential risk arising from complex issues.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorney
OR equivalent experience.
Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
“Team player” who enjoys partnering with cross-functional teams to solve complex issues in a highly matrixed environment.
Desire and ability to work as part of a diverse and inclusive team.
An aptitude for and interest in understanding technology, including a desire to apply technology, including AI, to improve the team’s legal work and improve efficiency.
Legal experience in advising clients on the development of technology generally, and health technology specifically, is preferred but not required.
Ability to adapt to and facilitate a team-based approach to knowledge sharing in a flexible environment that emphasizes collaboration and team performance over management hierarchy.
Highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines and manage competing priorities, and stay calm under challenging circumstances.
Legal Counsel IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $103,800 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,700 - $219,200 per year.
