In the role you have the opportunity to:

Obtain a dynamic and rewarding career opportunity for a 1st shift Technologist in Latham, NY. The Latham MR Magnets facility is a manufacturing and development site for Magnetic Resonance Imaging magnets and other superconducting products used in Philips Magnetic Resonance Imaging and other customers. This site is part of the Magnetic Resonance Business Innovation Unit in Philips Healthcare.


The Technologist will be a technical specialist expected to support and assist both Operations and Manufacturing Engineering in the area of assignment. This will consist of participating in the industrialization of new processes, qualification of equipment from the user perspective, be responsible for the more challenging repair and salvage missions and contribute to the continuous improvement and preventive actions as necessary. The Technologist will promote a positive culture and engage in continuous improvement activities for the work center.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Fill-in on the production line when needed and for the Team Leader as required.

  • Support & Lead Problem Solving Issues that affect your area (Kaizen & Problem Solving)

  • Support Kaizens & Corporate Cost Reduction Tasks (MOH)

  • Ability to create Manufacturing Instructions for their processes and work with the Engineering Teams to ensure timely release.

  • Ability to Troubleshoot Issues & Lead Teams to a quick and timely resolution. Perform rework when necessary.

  • First Line of Defense for Quality Issues – understand issue and when to bring in QE, ME, AM, etc.

  • Knowledgeable about work processes, ability, and proficiency to apply direct labor when needed.

  • Leads by example. Will coach/ mentor/ train group on the technical nature of work tasks.

  • Assist in area audits (Quality, EHS, 5S, etc.).

  • Liaison with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Research & Development (R&D)

  • Ability to work with minimum direction, but also cooperatively with multi discipline engineering teams.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:

  • High School education or equivalent, additional technical training/education preferred

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing

  • Excellent critical thinking/ problem solving skills

  • Strong Analytical skills

  • Able to complete Direct labor alongside all others in a given work area when required.

  • Computer proficiency (MS Office, Excel and Outlook).

  • Interpersonal skills and an effective communicator, both written and oral, including public speaking. Able to guide and coach direct labor workforce.

  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of the magnet manufacturing processes, including those tasks outside the given area.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental, safety and quality regulations.

  • Enabler in behavior changes and implementing lean methodologies.

  • 8+ years of Manufacturing Experience Required

  • 5+ years of Philips Experience (Preferred)
