Essential Job Functions
HVAC: Maintain safe, efficient operation of the heating, cooling, air handling ventilation and refrigerant equipment and systems of the facility within applicable codes and standards.
Maintain, repair, install and/or test the following: cooling systems including but not limited to direct expansion, chilled water, brine, absorption, and heat pumps, refrigeration equipment and systems, high pressure boilers and ancillary equipment, various water chemistries, heating systems including but not limited to forced air, heat pumps, hot water, and electric, air handling equipment, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and various temperature control systems.
PLUMBING: Maintain, repair, test and install all types of plumbing equipment, fixtures, devices and systems within applicable codes and standards.
Maintain, repair, install and/or test the following: various types of fluid and gas conveyance systems, plumbing fixtures and devices, drains, sewers, vent water lines, natural gas, medical gas and vacuum, pumps, flow controls, and control valves, and various pieces of specialty equipment used throughout the facilities.
CARPENTRY: Inspect, maintain and install various commercial, institutional and residential grade building components and finishes of the facility in compliance with applicable codes, regulations and standards. Responds to the needs of various departments, units and requesters as related to the building trades, casework finishes, concrete masonry, brick and block work, shelving, doors, hardware, locks/keying etc.
Construct, repair and/or maintain the following: various types of walls, ceilings, floors, decks and finishes, various types of masonry construction, various types of casework, shelving, and filing systems, and various types of doors, hardware, locking systems, and glazing.
Repair, install and/or maintain fire/smoke separations and doors in compliance with applicable codes and regulations, and various pieces of furniture, carts and other similar equipment.
Weld, braze and solder various metals and equipment within established guidelines.
Demolish various building components in compliance with O.S.H.A. regulations.
ELECTRICAL: Install, repair, test and maintain the electrical wiring, distribution, switching and emergency generation of the facility, within compliance of applicable codes and standards. Installs, repairs, tests and maintains various communications, signaling, communication and systems of the facility.
Install, repair, test and/or maintain the following: switch gear, automatic transfer switches, manual transfer switches, distribution panels, both low and medium voltage, buss duct, various wiring schematics and devices, M.I. cable and other distribution and wiring materials, electrical system and components, emergency generators, engine sets, motors, contractors and motor control centers, electronic motor drive systems (V.F.D.), power conditioning and regulating equipment, uninterruptable power systems and batteries, lighting systems including but not limited to incandescent, fluorescent, H.I.D., or low voltage, various alarms, communication, signaling, and data systems, and food preparation equipment.
Read construction drawings, perform material take offs and provide estimates for various projects and tasks.
Other duties as assigned.
Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]
Required Qualifications/Experience
High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
Five (5) years’ experience demonstrating skills in various maintenance areas, including plumbing, carpentry, construction, electrical, and/or HVAC.
Experience in mechanical processes, equipment repair, and building trades.
Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects.
Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Graduate of an accredited trade school, vocational school, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
Associate’s Degree in Maintenance, Engineering, Technical Services, or related field.
One or more of the following Certifications/Licenses:
Plumber – Journeyman or Master plumbing License, Natural Gas Certified, Medical Gas installation Certification, Welding Certificate
HVAC – Class II Refrigeration reclaiming license, Certified Balancer
Carpentry – Journeyman Certificate, Welding Certificate
Electrician – OSHA Arc Flash Certified, FCC license, Journeyman or Master Electrician License
EAP Certification
Experience in Healthcare setting.
License, Certification & Clearances
Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system
Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (if out of state hire current Department of Motor Vehicle record report required and obtain PA Current Driver License within 30 days of hire).
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
