Mississippi Employer Fiber Optics Technician III in LAUREL, Mississippi

I.

        

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Fiber Optic Technician III will be assigned OSP facing job functions related to the installation, maintenance, and restoration of OSP multiport service terminals (MST) to ensure the integrity of the plant and to minimize downtime. This includes installing, splicing, and testing fiber cable, splice enclosures, and hand holes. Fiber Optic Technician III will also be assigned customer facing job functions related to the installation and maintenance of broadband services primarily as it relates to the FTTH network. This includes placing and splicing drops, mounting network interface devices, installation of fiber optic cable into the premise, activating all FTTH/VOIP equipment and devices, and setting up a local network inside residential or commercial premise with an end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency for the Association and DE Fastlink. The Fiber Optic Technician III will have the opportunity to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations by evaluating problems and implementing best solutions.

III.

     

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

A.

       

Possess a good understanding of fiber documentation and can splice, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Multiport Fiber Terminals.

 

B.

       

Test fiber strands with OTDR with the ability to accurately interpret results to ensure integrity of fiber cable.

 

C.

       

Locate, replace, and repair damaged MST stubs during outages.

 

D.

       

Install, activate, and troubleshoot all FTTH/VOIP equipment inside premise and train subscriber how to connect to and use properly.

 

E.

       

Place, splice, and troubleshoot network interface device's, demarcation enclosures, as well as aerial and buried drop cable at and to the customer premise.

 

F.

       

Monitor tier 2 ticketing system and respond quickly to address service outages.

 

G.

      

Punctual for all service appointments and completes all service orders promptly and professionally.

 

H.

       

Work closely with Customer Service Department to maintain an aggressive yet achievable home installation schedule.

 

I.

         

Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment.

 

J.

        

Provide accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database.

 

K.

       

Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, track work hours, and track mileage.

 

L.

        

Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.

 

M.

      

Ability to safely utilize bucket trucks and ladders to access various installation and construction points.
