Job Description:
70% Research
Lead and conduct collaborative research projects.
Work interdisciplinary with other researchers from the School of Engineering and KU.
Lead and assist in the preparation of research proposals.
Conduct research, prepare and execute experiments, and analyze associated data.
Prepare journal papers.
Assist in mentoring and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students with their research.
20% - Reporting and Dissemination of Research
Prepare and present updates on research projects.
Present findings in seminars and conferences.
Assist in the preparation of research reports.
Participate in group meetings.
10% - Technical Assistance
- Assist KUTC staff with meeting the grant deliverables associated with current grants.

Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on transportation engineering or a closely related field by date of appointment.
Robust record of scholarly accomplishments, including publications and technical presentations.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
Candidates will be evaluated on their research experience and communication skills, as evidenced by: (i) CV and cover letter, (ii) a 2-page research statement, (iii) prior research publications and/or patent applications, (iv) names of three referees, and (v) interview by videoconference.
NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD conferred at the time of hire. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an interim basis not to exceed 6-months. Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.

Position Overview:
The University of Kansas Transportation Center (https://kutc.ku.edu/) (KUTC) at the University of Kansas (KU) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in transportation, with special emphasis on highway safety, intelligent transportation systems, traffic operations, multimodal transportation, alternative transportation modes, and human-centered mobility. The KUTC conducts, coordinates, and promotes transportation training, technology transfer, and research to the State of Kansas and the surrounding region and has the following missions:
To coordinate, facilitate, and stimulate interdisciplinary research in all aspects of transportation at the University of Kansas;
To collect, generate, and provide information, training, and technical assistance to national, regional, state, and local agencies, to private industry, and the citizens of the state; and
To conduct research in transportation areas related to the Kansas economy.
The preferred start date is January 1, 2025. This is a 1-year appointment with possibility of reappointment based on performance and funding availability.
