Shire Instrumentation Technician II in Lawrence Manufacturing Facility, California
Under direct to minimal supervision, the instrument technician is responsible to maintain, calibration, troubleshoot and perform repairs on the Process Instrumentation systems. Prepare calibration reports. Understand the basic process and control theory of a Critical or Major systems. Additionally, they will responsible for performing basic installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, testing, and documentation/logs of a wide variety of office utility and facility equipment used in manufacturing, utility plants, analytical labs, and office areas. The technician will be responsible for completing various quality system and safety documentation. All work must be completed in a safe (in accordance to HRA, JHA, etc), timely manner according to planning and predefined schedules with minimal impact to production while complying with GMP, SOP, CFR and company regulations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under general supervision, perform calibrations on Temperature, Pressure, Conductivity , UV, Balances, Scales, Vacuum, pH, CL2, ORP, Timers, RPM, Liquid/Gas Flow, and Gas detector instrumentation ect….
performs breakdown and preventive maintenance of critical plant/utility equipment and instruments.
Has technical understanding and troubleshooting skills of electrical and pneumatic instrumentation.
Support and may be responsible for repairing manufacturing equipment and building components; doors, wetted fire system, lighting, mechanical and electrical equipment as assigned.
Will provide basic troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair of equipment and equipment components related to positional responsibilities
Perform installation and modifications, or work together with Engineering, Maintenance, Process Control, or outside contractors on new installations and modifications.
Understand and perform calibrations on Temperature, Pressure, Conductivity , UV, Balances, Scales, Vacuum, pH, CL2, ORP, Timers, RPM, Liquid/Gas Flow, and Gas detector instrumentation ect….
Operate, Maintain, and repair of calibration test equipment.
Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with CA state and federal EPA regulation and laws. Specific responsible system repairs, upkeep, maintenance and operations managed within regulating agencies such as CAL OSHA and OSHA.
Understand Automated Control systems and control system instrumentation concepts, and the relationship between each other.
Initiate corrective action to ensure potentially hazard situations are avoided and safety standards are maintained relative to production or facilities.
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports per Standard Operating Procedures.
Is responsible for performing instrumentation calibrations under the Metrology program.
Ability to read and interpret Loop, P&ID, Wire, and Electrical drawings.
Ability to spec out like for like or like for function instrumentation, to meet manufacturing process requirements.
Verify Out of Tolerance Conditions
Assist with the review of the System Specification and Piping Identification Drawing verifications
Successfully interface with customers, as necessary
Ensure proper execution, resource allocation and complete, accurate and timely documentation of work
May perform other duties as assigned.
Must be able to work independently and make sound judgments regarding work methods and tools.
Must be able to read wiring diagrams, loop drawings and P&ID drawings
Must have the ability to correctly complete high school-level mathematics.
Incumbent must be proficient in a variety of mathematical disciplines and be able to work with both the metric and USA standards of measurement.
Must be able to read, write, and converse in English.
Must be able to read and follow detailed written instructions and have good verbal/written communication skills.
Good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skilled craft training/apprenticeship certificate or commensurate combination of technical education and experience.
2-5 years in Process Instrumentation/Calibration/maintenance (May include education). Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing environment or equivalent industry desired.
- 2 year technical/AA/AS degree in metrology, instrumentation, electronics, or related technical discipline.
Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. Additionally, personal protective equipment must be worn due to safety requirements.
The incumbent must work in a clean room environment wearing special garments.
Will work in a cold, wet environment and hot humid environments both inside and outside of facility.
Will work around chemicals such as paint, flooring materials, refrigerants, alcohol, acids, buffers that may require respiratory protection.
Must be able to work 8-12 hour day or night shifts and overtime, weekend work, and or holidays
The overall physical exertion of this position requires medium to heavy work. Times are continuous and may occur multiple times per day.
