Dartmouth Health Manager - Collaborative Healthcare Infection Prevention (RN) in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

Responsible, in collaboration with the Hospital Epidemiologist, for the execution of all aspects of the inpatient and outpatient infection prevention control program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC: MHMH and all D-H ambulatory practice sites). Oversees surveillance and reporting of healthcare-associated infections, development of policies, recommendations and guidelines, development of orientation and educational programs, consultation services for DHMC and Dartmouth Health (D-H), epidemiological investigations and studies, and quality improvement activities. Demonstrates and utilizes a comprehensive understanding of the theory and principles of clinical infection prevention and control, remains informed on new evidence-based guidelines and major changes in the field, and provides consultation and guidance to DHMC leaders adopting these changes. Directly accountable for CHIP staff supervision and development in all facets of their role and responsibilities. All duties are performed in a manner that promotes collaborative work.

Responsibilities

  • Uses advanced operations and systems knowledge and clinical acumen to redesign and maintain the infrastructure for infection prevention and mandatory reporting requirements to assure efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy of these internal and external reporting systems.

  • Provides direct leadership support and coordination of the CHIP team by overseeing standard work, evaluates the performance of staff, encourages and supports staff education, and fosters personal and professional development of CHIP personnel.

  • Participates in interviews and hiring of new CHIP staff. Maintains program orientation and training procedures for new employees.

  • Applies nursing knowledge in formal and informal consultation with individual staff and clinicians, managers, committees/teams and Risk Management to identify and address clinical quality and safety concerns and coordinate the management of clinical adverse event investigations, risk assessments and follow up on corrective actions.

  • Applies advanced skills in change management to maintain and promote a harmonious work environment within the different division departments to assure alignment on clinical quality and safety projects.

  • Assumes primary responsibility for developing efficient program procedures with an emphasis on high quality of program performance.

  • Develops policies and procedures for all internal operating systems.

  • Works collaboratively with D-H Infection Preventionists and regional epidemiologists to standardize and align systems and processes.

  • Using advance critical thinking and nursing knowledge, facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to system problem identification and resolution with other stakeholder departments/sections at D-H to improve the effectiveness of infection prevention and control Practices.

  • Works collaboratively with the Department Director and Hospital Epidemiologist to apply advanced leadership, analytical, and change management skills to identify and develop new programs or methodologies for delivering CHIP services more effectively and efficiently by initiating and reviewing proposals for modifying operational systems, practices, policies and procedures, and implementing necessary changes.

  • Develops and carries out a full range of management and reporting activities of the assigned programs and projects including, but not limited to, preparation of the annual program execution plan, staffing plan and financial budget, monitoring and reporting program performance in relation to annual plans and budget, developing strategies for improvement and/or the correction of deviations from plans and budget. May temporarily assumes Director’s responsibilities in the absence of the Director.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Bachelor of Science Nursing program required.

  • Master's degree and 5 years of related clinical experience required

  • Supervisory/management experience preferred

  • Greenbelt in process improvement methods or equivalent with 5 years of experience leading improvement or system design projects.

  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, oral and writing skills required.

  • Exemplary leadership qualities.

  • Prior experience with systems development required.

  • The ability to relate and deal effectively with physicians, administrators, support staff, and the general public with a high degree of tact and discretion required.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility

  • Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required

  • Area of Interest:Nursing;
