Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Environmental Engineering to join our dynamic team at Kiewit. As the Director of Environmental Engineering, you will play a key leadership role in our company's environmental division, overseeing the design and implementation of engineering projects. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the successful execution of projects while maintaining a strong focus on environmental sustainability and compliance.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Industrial and Water Engineering Group has the ability and the responsibility to greatly influence the successful outcome of our projects. Our team is multi-faceted, with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

Location

Lenexa KS. Remote opportunities will not be considered.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

• Provide strong leadership to the environmental engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

• Ability to provide guidance and direction to multiple teams across different market segments

• Set strategic goals and objectives for the department and develop plans to achieve them.

• Mentor and develop staff, promoting professional growth and ensuring the team's technical excellence.

• Collaborate with other managers and executives to drive the overall success of the company.

Project Management:

• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, environmental regulations, budgets, and timelines.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, allocating resources effectively and optimizing project workflows.

• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and effectively addressing their needs.

Technical Expertise:

• Provide expert guidance and technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards.

• Review and approve project designs, reports, and deliverables to ensure accuracy and quality.

• Stay updated on the latest developments in environmental engineering practices, regulations, and technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve project outcomes.

Client and Consultant Interaction:

• Act as the main interface between our company and client consultants, building and maintaining strong working relationships.

• Collaborate with client consultants to understand project requirements, develop innovative solutions, and address any concerns or issues that arise.

• Proactively communicate project progress, risks, and opportunities to clients and stakeholders, ensuring a high level of client satisfaction.

Compliance and Sustainability:

• Ensure that all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations, permits, and codes.

• Promote sustainable engineering practices and identify opportunities to enhance environmental performance in projects.

• Lead efforts to develop and implement environmental management systems and initiatives to improve overall compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field. A professional engineering license is preferred.

• Proven experience 15+ years’ in environmental engineering, with a focus on project management and client consultation.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interface with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.

• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices

• Experience in managing complex projects and delivering results within budget and schedule constraints.

• Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex engineering problems.

• Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in environmental engineering.
