Literacy Intervention Teacher Assistant - Temporary/Hourly POSITION: Literacy Intervention Teacher Assistant (Elementary Grades K-3)(Temporary/Hourly Position) REPORTS TO: Department of Curriculum and Instruction LOCATION: Various Schools and Locations (St. Mary's County, MD)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The teacher assistant must be able to work collaboratively with the leadinterventionists and classroom teacher, as well as, work independently to support the literacygoals of the school system and students that they will be assigned to support. The teacherassistant will be required to provide literacy interventions to identified students, maintain a safeand orderly learning environment, assist students and teachers with the assimilation of learnedliteracy skills back into the classroom setting, maintain and organize intervention materials,report to work on time and daily, and collect intervention data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The teacher assistant will be assigned by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction toprovide literacy intervention support to any elementary grade level (Kindergarten through Grade2). Assignments may change throughout the year. The teacher assistant will work under thedirection of the Department of Curriculum as well as the supervision of the principal of theschool(s) assigned. As part of the duties, the teacher assistant will:

  • Prepare, under the direction of the lead interventionist, appropriate literacy interventionplans and materials;
  • Provide literacy interventions to students in small groups or one-on-one as scheduled;
  • Collect and record literacy intervention data as required by the intervention;
  • Share intervention data with the classroom teacher to ensure the assimilation of learnedliteracy skills back into the classroom setting;
  • Meet regularly with the lead interventionist at a designated time for planning andevaluating students progress;
  • Attend professional training sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduated from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalencecertificate.
  • College training and experience working with children is desired.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary/Hourly Position (August 19, 2024 - June 13, 2025)
