As Principal Data Engineer, you will be streamlining the flow of information and deliver insights to manage our consumer analytics. The Principal Data Engineer is essential for providing robust data solutions and contribute by creating data strategy plans. Working alongside the E&I Affordability Analytics teams, you’ll have the opportunity to help making decisions easier for members and helping members save on healthcare costs. Primary Responsibilities of the Principal Data Engineer:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, to ingest, transform, and store healthcare data from various enterprise data sources

• Analyze raw data sources, data transformation, structural requirements for new software and application

• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as:  

o Data encryption  

o Data de-identification to ensure data security

o Role-based data access 

o Automating manual processes

o Optimizing data delivery

• Tuning and optimizing data processes for greater scalability, etc.

• Design, build and implement automation processes for production release of data engineering, machine learning and business intelligence processes.

• Code, test, document, and maintain high-quality and scalable Big Data solutions

• Define security and backup strategy for data solutions

• Build and implement real time / near real time data pipelines

• Help to ensure successful deployment of newly implemented data solutions

Required Qualifications of the Principal Data Engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, a related field or equivalent industry experience

• Extensive experience in SQL and object-oriented / object functional scripting language: Python, Scala, Java, etc.

• Proficient with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS, and Google Clouds

• Proven experience with Airflow, GitHub actions, Azure cloud environment tools (Data factory, Key-vault etc.)

• Hands on experience of developing big data processes using big data tools – Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.

• Data Quality and Data Security process, tools and technologies knowledge

Preferred Qualifications of the Principal Data Engineer:

• Healthcare industry knowledge and experience with exposure to EDI, HIPAA, HL7 and FHIR integration standards

• Previous experience in leading teams/people management and mentoring.

• Data Virtualization tools and technology experience

• Experience with Metadata management and Data Catalog management process, tools and technologies

• Experience with Spark in data processing and machine learning processes.

• Hands-on experience with related/complementary open-source software platforms and languages (e.g. Java, Angular, Scala Linux, Apache, Unix)

• Experience with API technologies
