About the position
General Information:
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents may travel to remote locations for
data collection and field activities; must be able to walk over rugged terrain along stream
banks; lift and carry equipment weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and carry up
to 100 pounds for short distances; operate four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles in rugged
terrain; and work in inclement weather conditions. This is a year around benefited position.
Responsibilities:
Successful candidate will assist in training, scheduling, and leading field activities of
technicians on the Harvest Monitoring Project for Idahos largest anadromous fisheries for
steelhead, Chinook salmon, and Coho salmon. Work is based out of Lewiston, Idaho to
monitor fisheries occurring in the Clearwater River, lower Salmon River, and the Snake
River drainages. The Senior Technician will also assist in the coordination of daily
operations during our South Fork Clearwater River localized steelhead broodstock program
in February and March. Work will be a combination of field work and office.
Qualifications:
Requirements: Previous work experience in data collection, data entry/analysis, field
supervision, equipment/vehicle maintenance, and writing summary reports. Excellent
attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills. Experience handling
large, live and harvested fish and collecting samples from catch. Working randomized
daylight shifts often including weekends. Occasional overnight stays (including camping)
and out of area travel. A bachelors degree in fisheries, biology, or closely related field is
preferred but not required. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid drivers
license.
