Director, Tax Planning & Controversy
Job Summary
The Director, Tax Planning & Controversy will have primary responsibility for the development of U.S. and state income tax planning strategies and defense of such planning through audit by tax authorities around the globe. Oversee all Federal and State controversy, which will require close collaboration with finance personnel as well as personnel in other company operations.
Essential Functions
Tax Planning & Research
Involvement with execution of tax planning projects
Initiation and collaboration on federal and state income tax projects
Support with modeling the impact of planning initiatives
Tax Controversy
Responsible for leading strategy for defense of tax planning and interface with the Internal Revenue Service and various state tax authorities.
Lead tax department in responding to income tax audit inquiries
Work with subject matter experts within Tax, accounting or other teams to respond to audit inquiries
Coordinate with Director, Income Tax Operations on federal and state income tax audits
Coordinate with Director, Income Tax Operations on impacts of audits on uncertain tax positions and use of team members to develop audit responses
Monitoring of Tax Legislation and regulatory activity and assist in identification of proposals which could impact the Company and its tax position
Frequent interaction/communications with key business partners within Tax, as well as Accounting, FP&A, Regulatory, Legal, Strategy and Treasury
Manage Internal Controls related to tax planning and controversy
Work directly with the Tax Reporting Team to ensure an effective control environment and to provide input on tax planning impacts on financial reporting and controls including assessment of changes in uncertain tax positions
Required Qualifications For Position
Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other related financial field
Master's Degree Master of Taxation, JD, CPA or equivalent experience
CPA with advance degree
10+ years 10+ years combined public accounting tax and corporate tax experience
10+ years Minimum of 10+ years of corporate tax experience. Preference for individual with Big 4 public accounting or law firm experience at senior manager, director or partner level or at the senior director level or equivalent experience in a publicly traded multi-national corporation
Experience with M&A, including federal and state income tax tax issues and business integration experience on both the buy-side and sell-side
Experience in managing large case IRS examinations and tax controversy with state and local tax jurisdictions
Utility experience helpful, not required
Firm understanding of financial accounting practices and an In-depth knowledge of FAS109/ASC740 reporting standards
Exceptional communication skills with ability to effectively disseminate information to others across the organization in a clear, easily understood manner
Work Authorization

Salary Range:
$150,900.00 - $226,300.00
