Group 22—Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) Systems Group. The C-WMD Systems Group develops innovative systems and technology for prevention, preparedness, characterization, detection, mitigation, medical response, remediation, and attribution of CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) and related threats. Our principal R&D sponsors are the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. The C-WMD Systems Group draws from a very diverse talent pool across the fields of engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, chemical, biomedical, general), physics, mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science, chemistry, and biology. Staff members work in a team environment to study a broad range of key technical questions to countering the proliferation and use of WMDs

Job Description

The Assistant Business Manager will be a key member of the C-WMD Systems team for financial and business operations. The candidate will work closely with the Group Business Manager performing business management activities for the group. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist Group Business Manager in developing, analyzing, monitoring, and reporting the financial status of programs both internally and externally, including preparing program specific budgets, spend plans, and custom sponsor reports • Assist with tracking, entering and reporting labor on programs internal and external to the group • Assist in the preparation and compilation of required documentation for potential new funding sources • Close out purchase orders and programs • Review and approve group travel ensuring proper charging to programs • Track property and assist in preparing any formal required paperwork as needed • Obtain a thorough understanding of the procurement process to include approving purchases, resolving issues, ensuring invoices are paid in a timely manner, reviewing and verifying Purchasing Card transactions • Approve support and subcontractor timesheets • Track completion of required training for group members • Collaborate with Group Administrative Assistant on tasks when needed including, but not limited to, planning group R&R events, space planning, and ad hoc requests • Carry out special projects and assist in data calls as needed

Requirements

• AS degree and 1-3 years of related experience, or Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field • Candidate should have demonstrated organizational skills as well as the ability to be resourceful, motivated, organized and capable of working within a team, or individually, in a deadline sensitive environment • Experience with Microsoft Office is required as is proficiency in Excel functions • Effective oral and written communication skills are required • Experience in handling confidential and/or propriety Information in an appropriate manner • Familiarity with computer based financial tools and SAP is desired
