Patient Recruitment and Retention (PR&R) Specialist

PR&R Mission

PR&R’s mission is to support the study teams in effectively planning for and achieving on-time enrollment by developing and executing innovative patient recruitment and site engagement strategies that leverage strategic partnerships, healthcare data, and technologies.

We do this by working with Shire teams to identify where opportunities and challenges are for recruiting and retaining patients into each study. Once identified, we work with specialized patient recruitment vendors to deliver on targeted strategies and manage campaign performance throughout enrollment.

PR&R Specialist Role

Support and deliver day to day patient recruitment and retention services and deliverables for clinical study project teams, including:

  • Early operational planning including enrollment forecasting, modeling, and site identification

  • Recruitment support strategies (e.g. central recruitment)

  • Recruitment and retention planning

  • Collate and organize data to support analysis of performance and lessons learned regarding recruitment and retention activities and feasibility assessments

  • Utilize Recruitment Vendor Management Strategy (RVMS) principles to optimize value and patient yield of vendor contracts

  • Support the function in deploying innovative patient engagement solutions

Support PR&R Lead with activities related to:

  • Process improvement and mapping

  • Inter-departmental collaboration (e.g. Compliance, Technologies)

  • Recruitment vendor qualification, enrollment and contract management

  • Data compilation / analysis and ad hoc reporting

  • Disease research

  • Other function related administrative tasks

Internal/External Contacts

  • Job is accountable to the PR&R Team Lead, supporting PR&R leads

  • Consults and coordinates with internal functional groups including External Partners, Procurement, and Clinical Programs, as well as external suppliers including recruitment vendors and database providers

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in patient engagement and recruitment discipline within a pharmaceutical company, CRO or similar organization, or experience in B2C marketing (preferably in health promotions or healthcare marketing)

  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements and guidelines governing clinical research preferred
