Shire Sr. Financial Analyst - US Neuroscience in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) will provide financial business partnering support to the US Neuroscience Franchise. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely financial management reporting of marketed products and associated commercial resourcing. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a detailed, intellectually curious, and analytical minded candidate with experience dealing with ambiguity. Key customers include US Neuroscience Finance team and members of the US Neuroscience Commercial team. This role will be based in Lexington, MA.

Essential Functions



Manage aspects of the financial close, the monthly re-forecast and the annual budget and long range plan .

For monthly and quarterly reporting:

  • Analyze the accuracy of financial results, determine variance drivers and write performance commentary.

  • Liaise with Global Market Access and Finance Operations to calculate Medicaid and Managed Care rebate accruals.

  • Evaluate financial implications of coupon and patient assistance programs and strategies.

  • Monitor Selling and Marketing performance vs. plan.

For the forecast, budget and long range plan:

  • Partner with the Forecasting lead on the gross sales forecast by validating and challenging market assumptions.

  • Monitor relevant KPIs, trends and events impacting the business and incorporate this information into the forecast.

  • Collaborate with the Market Access team to evaluate the financial implications of contracting strategies and their impact on the plan.

  • Partner with the Commercial teams to develop selling and marketing budgets and forecasts.

  • Identify risks and opportunities to the plan.

Manage relationships with the following teams to ensure alignment with Neuroscience finance requirements:

  • US Patient Access Team – provide the appropriate analysis to support the US coupon and patient assistance program.

  • Forecasting Team – understand all aspects of the revenue forecast and ensure timelines are met.

  • Marketing – provide appropriate finance support to prepare budget and forecast and to monitor performance against plan.


Support financial reporting activities across the Neuroscience portfolio :

  • Develop financial models and sensitivity analyses.

  • Drive efficiencies across Neuroscience Finance by identifying process simplification and automation opportunities.

  • Prepare materials which present monthly/quarterly/year-end financials and budget/forecast/LRP comparisons

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting and 3-5 years of financial analyst experience is required.

  • Experience with management reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting is required.

  • Pharmaceutical experience and knowledge of sales deduction calculations is strongly preferred.

  • Objective, critical thinking with focus on process improvements and simplification.

  • Self-confidence, initiative and ability to work independently in order to meet deadlines.

  • Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Solid systems skills in Hyperion SmartView and Essbase.

Complexity and Problem Solving

  • Makes recommendations and presents solutions on financial issues to senior NBU commercial and financial management.

  • Advises management of financial implications of strategic decisions.

  • Creates a best in class management reporting function.

  • Identifies important trends and make recommendations on issues to senior management as part of the recurring monthly reporting process.
