Shire U.S. Commercial Learning and Development Business Partner in Lexington, Massachusetts

Primary Duties: The Associate Director has the responsibility of leading the team that is responsible for the overall L&D of multiple cross-functional and franchise teams. He/She provides leadership for the needs assessment, design, development, implementation and evaluation of critical training programs and initiatives. The Associate Director ensures training programs and learning activities are developed and aligned to organizational strategies goals and the teams are prepared to successfully support the specific cross-functional and franchise organization of Ophthalmics.

He/She will provide oversight ensuring pull through of the Commercial L&D initiatives and vison while being a strategic partner to the specific cross-functional and franchise business teams of Ophthalmics.


50% Leadership Provide recommendations and solutions to Learning and Development leadership on the strategy as well as tactical improvements for the training department. Lead team to ensure alignment for training and development of multiple cross-functional business franchise teams. Actively monitor and /or review all aspects of external vendors to bring high quality services and materials that meet compliance standards and are within defined budget guidelines. Sought out as subject matter expert regarding adult learning principles, training curriculum design, industry best practices and talent development approaches. Support team in partnering with their specific cross-functional and franchise business areas providing guidance and ensuring that training skills and capabilities will support pulling through the L&D strategy. Lead direct reports and give input to developing the organization structure, short and long term staffing and resource requirements. Coach, mentor and develop direct team members and create a positive team environment that fosters development. Recommend professional development resources for cross-functional and franchise business team members ensuring that development is focused on increasing their contributions to the organization’s success. Review outcomes of training managers’ sales territories evaluations and customer interactions and guide team to formulate and create additional training/learning activities for the field and provide feedback to L&D leads.

30% Process Provide oversight to conducting the assessment of sales training needs assessment, curriculum design, and gap analysis in order to identify key training initiatives to enhance field execution. Provide guidance and support the design and development of training sessions that increase cross-functional teams’ skills and knowledge, with a goal of positively impacting business results. Oversee the choice and execution of best approaches for supporting tactical implementation, managing pull through of marketing strategies and maximizing cross-functional and franchise team impact. Make recommendations on the determination of the most effective training delivery method for training (classroom, e-learning, workshop, webinar, or teleconference) and on the design of support materials and curriculum for training. Develop evaluations to measure and analyze training effectiveness to determine when revisions, enhancement or new programs should occur. Responsible for leading annual budgeting process and monitoring to remain within established parameters.

20% Cross-Functional Establish and maintain strategic and trusting relationships with cross functional and franchise stakeholders guiding and influencing learning strategies and training activities to ensure training programs are effective and cross-functional teams can apply required knowledge and skills. Work closely as a valued business partner collaborating with Directors, Area Vice Presidents, and Vice Presidents regarding strategy, execution, resources, and establishing Key Performance Measures/Indicators-to assess training impact. Establish common ground between team members with divergent views and objectives. . Serve as a strategic project lead on all assigned special projects, work with project team to develop timelines, monitor budgets, and assign tactical execution steps.

Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor Degree Required; Masters preferred 7+ years Sales experience in healthcare industry with demonstrated success in a leadership role 5+ years of management experience in Healthcare industry or training, preferred. Proven success in all aspects of training development and evaluation of training programs. Working knowledge of Integrated Delivery networks, Group Purchasing Organizations, and Market Access Experience working with cross-functional leaders and teams to achieve common goals Institutional account selling experience required Strong understanding of the Takeda Brands’ purpose and requirements for field execution. Documented Sales awards preferred. Working knowledge of a Learning Management System Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
