Job Description

Summary:

The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible, under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, for the treatment of illness and injuries which impede independent functioning in mobility and can be treated by physical means. Clinical responsibilities are outlined in the APTA Scope of Practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Attend required meetings and adhere to the Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures including Mercy Core Values.

Function within the designed scope of practice, related to patient care and documentation.

Provide accurate feedback to the Physical Therapist and make recommendations for ongoing progress of treatment.

Assist in orientation and supervision of new employees, students and volunteers.

Participate in speaking engagements as requested by manager and/or supervisor.

Demonstrate behaviors which foster a positive work environment and teamwork, utilizing excellent communication skills.

Maintain a schedule including weekends and holidays as assigned, utilizing good time management skills with the ability to meet productivity levels and participate in program development.

Demonstrate an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability by maintaining professional competencies.

All other duties as assigned.

  1. Participates in the plan of care as directed by the physical therapist.

  2. Recognizes the significance of changing patient condition and notifies the physical therapist.

  3. Adheres to the safety/infection control policies and procedures of the organization.

  4. Adheres to guidelines of regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission, Medicare and/or Medicaid.

  5. Maintains confidentially and actively supports patient/family rights.

  6. Attends interdisciplinary team conferences.

  7. Keeps and turns in timely, accurate documentation and time activity payroll sheets.

Education:

Current Ohio PTA License, CPR Certification, Ohio Driver's License and car insurance.

Associate's degree (A.A.) from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
