Main responsibilities will include:

  • The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for the PLC/machine control performance, ultimately providing consistent and reliable operation for multiple robotic products within the Pharmacy Automation portfolio.

  • Senior member of the Controls Engineering group for product development focused on research, design, integration, and evaluation of robotic platforms and sub-systems.

  • Leads machine control architecture concept development, component evaluation/selection, design, implementation, debug / verification testing, and documentation.

  • Stays up to date with emerging control system technology and methodologies and will recommend and execute process / design improvements related to improving the development velocity, efficiency and quality output of the controls engineering team.

  • Kinematic analysis and development of complimentary control algorithms associated with robotic systems.

  • Develops control algorithms and is responsible for designing and implementing the control system for early prototype and proof of concept robotics.

  • Interacts and drives architectural and design changes in the mechanical and electrical design of the system to improve system performance related to the control systems.

  • Works collaboratively with a team using SAFe Agile methodologies to generate and deliver new product features relating to the control of robotic systems.

  • Build strong relationships with project managers, engineers (systems, electrical, mechanical), operations and maintenance teams, and external engineers/vendors.

  • Selects and collaborate with vendors as necessary.

  • Works with the Legal department in evaluating intellectual property as it relates to current and new concepts

  • Stays in sync with regulatory requirements and company design procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or Robotics, or Computer Science. (equivalent electrical and controls experience or accreditations will be considered)

  • Ten+ years of experience in the robotics and automation field, including electro-mechanical design and software development.

  • Experience with DC motor control

  • Experience with vision systems (vision guided robotic picking preferred)

  • Self-driven to accomplish tasks autonomously within established timelines with or without direction from a supervising engineer

  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience and/or knowledge developing PLC (distributed) as well as PC based motion control (centralized) systems.

  • Solid working knowledge of regulatory requirements for software and hardware development, including knowledge of standards such as IEC 60601, IEC 61010, ISO 13485, ISO 14971.

  • PLC experience with design, modification, and application

Preferred Experience:

  • Object-oriented software development (C#, C++)

  • Experience with .NET Framework and Standard edition

  • Proficiency in integrating, programming and debugging systems using Panasonic or Allen Bradley PLCs , HMIs, servo drives, and other types of automation equipment

  • Proficient with ABB and/or Fanuc robotic arm programming

  • Working knowledge of UML state machine theory and practical application

  • Robotic control theory, including servo systems and PID controllers
