LES is a publicly owned electric utility serving the greater Lincoln, Nebraska area, with a primary commitment to delivering cost-effective, dependable, and sustainably sourced electricity to its customers. Our Geospatial Operations team recognizes the significance of this objective and collaborates closely with our Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Technology teams to uphold it. Our primary responsibility in this collaboration is to ensure the accuracy and accessibility of data within the enterprise GIS system, enabling our internal stakeholders to make informed decisions that benefit our customers. Due to this increasing demand for resources we are restructuring our team to add additional leadership roles to help support our customers. Currently, we are in search of a leader who possesses a deep understanding of electric utility operations and is passionate about guiding this pivotal business unit to success.

Work Environment - In this role, the typical work week comprises of five days, primarily spent in the office. However, flexibility is integral, and occasionally, the schedule may involve four days of office work and one day dedicated to fieldwork. Field assignments involve inspecting both new and existing equipment, as well as labeling and tagging distribution assets as needed to uphold the accuracy of our GIS, Engineering, and Outage Management System. Within the GIS domain, our team is actively engaged in maintaining GIS feature data and connectivity, collaborating closely with both Operations and Engineering teams.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for oversight of the Geospatial Operations team. This responsibility will include gathering and analyzing geographic data in support of business needs and opportunities across multiple departments including design, construction, billing, and management. Overall responsibilities include leading staff, delegating work, budget support, program, and policy development, and setting strategic goals and objectives for area of assignment. Coordination of emergency outages and storm response for assigned staff, which may include off-duty hours, when necessary.Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

CORE COMPETENCIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, monitoring employee performance, ensuring staff members are trained and cross trained, resolving conflicts, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. 

  • Ensures data in the enterprise geospatial database is cataloged, populated and usable according to defined standards. Maintain individual datasets. Support the extraction, transformation and loading of data. Recommends and is the technical subject matter expert for the design of data models and features classes to support applications consuming geospatial and related data.  

  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise in spatial data and its use across multiple technologies.

  • Responsible for reviewing GIS data, feature displays and tools to ensure compliance with LES standards and electrical connectivity requirements.  

  • Establishes and implements policies and processes for area of assignment and assesses risks related to policies and department activities.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Advanced proficiency in Geographic Information Systems.

  • Strong Electrical Distribution knowledge.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in related field. Bachelor's degree preferred, and

  • At least five years of experience in area of assignment, or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
