Hanson Professional Services Inc. Senior Transportation Engineer in Lisle, Illinois
In this pivotal leadership role, you will exemplify technical excellence as part of multidisciplinary design teams to plan and execute transportation projects for a variety of clients including local governments and state departments of transportation. Projects are likely to include reconstruction and rehabilitation of rural highways and roads, urban highways and streets, major urban thoroughfares, urban and rural bridge replacements, intersections, sidewalks and multiuse paths, rail grade crossings, signing, pavement marking, and traffic control plans for construction.
Position requires the ability to serve as a key member of the project design team providing direction to junior level staff in the areas of roadway design. Position requires the ability to work on a variety of road related projects, collaborate with multiple project managers, and coordinate with staff across multiple disciplines.
As a senior transportation engineer, you will engage in the professional and technical growth of team members. Your emphasis on mentorship will contribute to a culture that values skill development, collaboration, and collective success.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee and manage various project tasks from concept development and design through preparation of bid documents.
Prepare and review complex design calculations.
Work with project managers to develop project scope and hours for related tasks.
Deliver roadway design tasks with attention to scope, schedule, and budget.
Perform QA/QC to ensure completed designs meet quality standards and project objectives.
Interact with clients to discuss existing and future projects.
Contribute to project pursuits.
Coordinate with Project Managers and Roadway Discipline Manager to help track local backlog and staffing utilization.
Guide and mentor staff on design approaches to fulfill project requirements.
Work with design team to produce and deliver milestone deliverables.
Supervise, mentor, and review technical assignments of less experienced staff.
Qualifications
Required
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams.
BS in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Must be a registered Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) or have the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Experience with local government, state DOT, and Tollway infrastructure projects.
Experience in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) CONNECT Edition or willingness to learn.
