MEDICAL OFFICE RECEPTIONIST

General Description

A Medical Office Receptionist is responsible for basic clerical tasks such as answering phones, greeting patients and visitors, and scheduling appointments in a professional and timely manner.

Job Duties

  • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phones
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette
  • Responsible for keeping the reception area clean and organized
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting patient detailed patient information including personal and financial information
  • Responsible for checking eligibility and verifying health benefits for the patients insurance. Verification needs to be worked one day in advance for all scheduled appointments.
  • Responsible to scan in all demographic and insurance information into the patients chart
  • Responsible for checking in and out patients from the electronic medical records system
  • Responsible for calling appointments for confirmation for the next business day.
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients' arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff

Schedules patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations, and consultations.

Relays information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations.

Assists patients or family members with completion of pre-registration forms.

Obtains eligibility and verification of benefits as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providers.

Informs patients of costs of care being provided. Collects and post fees according to protocols; prepare and balance daily financial registers and submit all forms and fees to the fiscal department.

Maintain forms and office supplies required for front desk activities.

Secure the building at the close of each working day; turn off or unplug appliances and machines, and lock all entrances.

Assure the readiness of the reception area for each working day; open the building at the designated time and have all front desk activities fully operational at the start of business hours.

Set the telephone system to roll to the answering service at night and remove from service in the morning

  • Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
  • Responsible to act as translator as needed if Spanish speaking.

Job Requirements

Preferably experienced in a healthcare setting.

Warm outgoing personality, with the ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Requires good grooming, and dress habits which reflect a professional image.

Respect and maintain privacy and dignity of patients: assure patient confidentiality at all times.

Must have computer knowledge in the use of electronic medical records.

Able to type routine correspondence and reports using personal computer.

Qualifications

Requires: High school diploma or GED.

One to three years experience, or the equivalent, in a community-based primary care practice.

Culturally effective capabilities demonstrating a sensitivity and responsiveness to varying cultural characteristics and beliefs.

Bilingual required.

Ability to operate computers and other office machines

Must be able to take responsibility and work under pressure

EClinicalWorks experience preferred

All Calvary Medical Clinic employees will be expected t fulfill any position or perform any job tasks as assigned when the need arises.

Classification - Full-time position, non-exempt

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
