Overview Dr. Zhongde Wang's laboratory in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University has an opening for an hourly position for a Research Technician working as a team member with postdocs, graduate students and undergraduate students to conduct research focusing on developing genetically engineered animal models.
Responsibilities Working with research associates, postdocs, graduate students to conduct molecular/cellular biology, embryology, and genetic engineering research, including but not limited to:
- Laboratory animal (rodent) breeding, taking care of animals, including feeding animals, changing cages, breeding and weaning animals, and genotyping analysis
- Other types of animal handling, including surgeries, tissue collection, and post-surgical animal monitoring and care, and records management
- Culture and other in vitro manipulations of animal cells, oocytes, and embryos
- Help to maintain lab (monitoring and maintaining lab equipment, general lab chores)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or Master's degree in biology, Animal Sciences, or a related field
- Previous experience with breeding rodents and genotyping analysis
- Ability to plan and carry out complex laboratory procedures
- Reliable, self-motivated, hard-working, and detail-oriented
Flexible with working schedules Preferred Qualifications:
Passionate about the research in developing using animal models and care about the animals Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to anticipate project needs and plan carefully to optimize resources necessary for successful project completion
- Communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines
- Great team player
