Lompoc Valley Medical Center Ward Clerk (Certified) - LTC/SNF in Lompoc, California
Salary Range: $16.14 - $22.24
Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Shift Coordinator and the Director of Nurses
Organize and distribute information, both verbal and written; distribute nursing supplies and assist in the transportation of patients/residents outside of the facility
Work is assigned seven days a week 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. shift or 12-8:30 p.m., but hours may vary.
Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

Position Duties/Responsibility:
Manage, coordinate and dispenses verbal and written information. This includes answering the telephone, greeting visitors, receiving and sending interfacility distribution.
Performs clerical work related with gathering information that is added to patient/resident health records, for patient/resident admissions, transfers and discharge. Also, notifying dietary, housekeeping and nursing departments of changes affecting them by the above actions.
Disseminates chart audit information to licensed nurses and nurse assistants. Facilitates the completion of items identified in the audits by contacting and explaining the items needed to the individuals involved.
When directed by the licensed staff, makes x-ray, lab and physical therapy appointments. Completes required forms and arranges transportation for patients/residents.
When designated by the Director of Nurses, makes a weekly inventory of nursing supplies. Orders items needed to be restocked in the quantities established. When stock arrives, stores in appropriate places.
Cleans patient/resident equipment sections, suction machines and thermometers.
Contacts resident’s families for needed personal items as directed by nursing staff.
Assists nursing assistants in feeding and caring for patients/residents when nursing assistant staffing requires this assistance.
May transport patients/residents and specimens using the van.

Essential Functions:
The ability to have a valid California driver’s license and be insurable by the District’s insurance carrier.
The ability to understand frequently used medical terms and to spell frequently written medical terms.

Position Qualifications:
Education: High School graduate or GED preferred
Experience: Six month, full-time recent successful nursing assistant experience in the CCC is preferred.
Certifications: Current California Nursing Assistant Certificate; Possess a valid California Driver’s License, able to be insurable with the District’s insurance carrier and have no major traffic offenses in the past three years.
Skills/Ability: Be knowledgeable of common resident care techniques; Have sufficient strength and endurance to fully participate in resident lifting and transporting; Be able to follow written and verbal instructions; Correctly spell common medical and general English words; Be able to establish and maintain effective relations with residents, visitors, physicians and other staff.
