What You’ll do (the role)
Summary
The Power Markets, Europe team plays a critical role in developing, negotiating, securing and managing revenue streams for LSbp’s project pipeline of solar and storage across Europe. As a Power Markets Analyst you will work closely with the rest of the Power Markets Team to:
Deliver regular, and ad hoc, market and regulatory analysis and insight
Ensure accuracy of financial modelling
Help develop LSbp’s asset’s route to market strategy in key European markets (e.g. competitor analysis, auction pricing strategy)
Support the team in building sales opportunities and deliver ad hoc projects
The individual will have the opportunity to obtain a deep commercial and financial understanding of solar development and power markets, gain valuable insight into the commercial strategies employed in maximising revenue streams from renewable generation (including Power Purchase Agreements, government subsidy and merchant strategies).
Duties and responsibilities
Market price, fundamental and regulatory analysis
Co-ordinate and own day-to-day analysis and regular reporting on power market price, market fundamental and regulatory developments
Use analysis to deliver market insight to support power marketing activity
Manage and improve access to power market data and information including use of external vendor software
Produce clear and concise presentations on market developments when required including analyzing imbalance exposure, hybridization opportunities and other new markets.
Presentation to the monthly energy risk forum.
Financial modelling
Support preparation for engagement with external clients, Board / Senior Management engagement including running financial models and reporting on the results with limited guidance
Ensure consistency and accuracy of power market team assumptions for financial modelling, working cross-functionally when required (e.g. with the Modelling and Development teams)
Competitor and Customer Analysis for Route to Market strategy
Building competitor insight reports (as required for auctions or on an ongoing basis for Corporate Power Purchase Agreement)
Develop target customer insight for Corporate Power Purchase Agreements
Support development of auction pricing and PPA pricing strategy
Producing ad-hoc reports and analysis for the European Power Markets team as required to support sales opportunities, new market entry, and for internal reporting
Pricing
Ownership and responsibility for pricing process for PPAs and auction participation.
Working with relevant team members to understand and scope opportunity, model pricing options and devlier recommendations for approval based on pricing insights.
Bring detailed understanding of what drives value for a project and ability to translate this into the offtake strategy for projects across the region.
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge
An understanding and interest in European power markets. This includes knowledge of supply-demand dynamics, energy trading, and the role of various market participants.
Familiarity with the methods and structures used for pricing energy commodities in different regions. Experience in quantitative modeling is a plus.
Languages a plus
Excellent knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, Power BI
Qualifications
- BA or equivalent required; a degree in engineering or the sciences would be advantageous. Masters preferred
Experience
- Experience in energy/renewables/solar PV or in a commodities trading environment preferred
