This role plays a key strategic and operation function in realising value from technology arising from BT’s research activities and elsewhere across BT’s business, with a particular focus on research adoption, the generation of revenue, reduction of cost or other strategic value for BT Group.

This role can be based in Bristol or London.

Our hybrid working model means you are required to be in the office 3 days per week.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Provide strong leadership in each of:

o The development and execution of a research commercialisation strategy with accompanying governance defining appropriate routes to value for BT;

o Interlock with BT’s research programmes to define and refine routes to value from conception through the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs);

o Opportunity, market and ecosystem analytics for proposition development;

o Opportunity identification and development of commercial propositions for research outputs;

o Business development for research outputs including relationship development and management, commercial negotiations, pricing and valuation;

o Collaboration with BT’s lines of business to drive research adoption.

• Management of an organisation of commercialisation principals and specialists including:

o Principal with responsibility for market, technology and ecosystem analysis;

o Principal with responsibility for proposition development and execution;

o Principal and specialist with responsibility for business development including commercial negotiation, pricing and valuation;

o Specialists with responsibility for technology and intellectual property analysis.

• Collaborate with the Patents Senior Manager in the commercialisation of BT’s intellectual property, including providing commercial leadership for IP litigation strategy.

• Provide regular reports on status, progress, and outcomes of commercialisation activities.

• Manage a financial budget for commercialisation expenditure and revenues over each planning and reporting period.

You'll have the following skills and experience

Skills

• A graduate in a relevant discipline, preferably with postgraduate qualification.

• Leadership and line management skills including coaching, mentoring and development.

• Experience in technical, engineering, technical project management, development, deployment or similar roles of relevance to BT Group products, services and technologies.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

• An ability to understand the work of BT’s research, development, engineering and technical teams, as well as the commercial priorities and objectives of BT’s lines of business and customer facing units.

• Ability to think strategically and develop innovative commercialisation strategies.

• Strong analytical skills with a capability to analyse complex information including analytics reports and research papers.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate issues and find effective solutions.

Experience

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area.

• At least 5 years’ experience in a relevant industrial or academic setting.

• Familiarity with telecoms, hi-tech, networking or IT industry and technological trends.

• Experience with cross-functional teams.

Preferred

• A proven track record of developing and executing a commercialisation, licensing, technology transfer, venture building or technology exploitation strategy.

• Experience in international business or law.

• Professional certifications related to project management, IP management, venturing, commercialisation, IP legal practice or similar.
