Within Digital, the COO (Chief Operating Officer) team plays a critical role in driving the Digital transformation: we set and implement the overall BT Digital strategy and plans and we are the engine room driving the outcomes required for our customers.

The Digital Strategy team defines and runs the strategy for a £1.1Bn Digital organisation. The role will align c£500-600m annual CapEx and c£400m OpEx investment to the Digital strategy and set the strategic enablers for £1Bn+ value from Data & AI. The role will need to Influence and align BT’s strategy, CFU strategies and the Digital Strategy and manage internal and external stakeholders at Board level.

What you’ll be doing

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Facilitate resolution and development of strategic questions and ensure engagement and ownership from key stakeholders on a working level. Key tasks include:

  • Breaking down a key question and framing the approach to investigate it

  • Identifying strategic options to resolve the issue (decision frameworks, Business Cases, Product Analysis Tools)

  • Developing recommendations and associated investment/business cases , based on research, insight, analysis, best practice, and experience.

  • Remain abreast of industry and disruptive trends to inform your strategies and ideas and explore new and exciting ways to engage customers and prospects. Integrate industry innovations and best practices into project planning and execution.

  • Leads teams in the production of materials that gather, analyse, and use information collected on competitors, customers, and other market factors that contribute to a business's competitive advantage.

  • Lead key strategic projects aligned with the Digital Strategy and business objectives. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Grow strong relationships and drive collaboration with multiple stakeholders through a demonstration of industry knowledge, strategic thinking, and the application of this to solve challenges.

Leadership

  • Act as a positive role model, leading by example, promoting a one team behaviour, and coaching team members, as aligned to the Digital Way

  • Influence/ support and make decisions that benefit the broader organization and align with strategic goals.

  • Proactively share knowledge with the organization, working to increase digital understanding and strategy across the business.

  • Drive cross department collaboration within British Telecom, to seamlessly link the different Customer Facing and Corporate Units.

  • Apply strong commercial and customer focus and external perspective to project decision-making.

  • Encourage experimentation and identify growth opportunities for both the team and the organization.

Key Decisions:

  • Make recommendations on action to take on key technology, commercial and other external trends to ensure alignment with the organization's Digital Strategy, business objectives, and long-term vision.

  • Assess the strategic fit of prospective partners/industry collaborations, etc. in terms of shared values, complementary capabilities, and mutual goals.

  • Strategy development and execution plan of key strategic priorities.

  • Evaluation and prioritization of strategic projects based on their alignment with the Digital Strategy, potential impact on strategic objectives, and resource availability, ensuring focused efforts on initiatives that deliver the highest value to the organization.

You'll have the following skills and experience

  • Ability to develop long-term, innovative strategies that align with organizational goals and anticipate future challenges.

  • Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of industry trends and market dynamics in telecommunications, technology, and SAAS to inform strategic decisions.

  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build, influence, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at the Board level.

  • Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to develop effective, data-driven solutions for complex problems.

  • Have an interest in digital disruption and transformation and an enthusiasm for creating effective strategies to implement new business models
