Los Alamos National Laboratory Algae Cultivation Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
The Microbial and Biome Sciences Group of Bioscience Division is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral research
associate position in microalgae cultivation and production. You will join a team working to improve the growth and resiliency of microalgae for the production of biofuels and bioproducts. The selected candidate will conduct research using lab scale environmental simulating reactors to understand effects of media composition and other abiotic parameters on the growth and biochemical composition of microalgae. Responsibilities will include both cultivation and analytical techniques. The project team works closely with experts in algae test-bed cultivation, technoeconomic analysis, and machine learning to ensure results are viable and applicable at large scale.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in algae cultivation.
Ability to independently design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments.
Enthusiasm for operating reactors for environmental simulation.
Excellent communication and writing skills in the English language.
Strong publication record.
Education/Experience: Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, biotechnology, engineering or a related STEM field completed within the last five years or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in Flow Cytometer and/or GC-FID operation and data analysis.
Understanding of basic machine-learning methods.
Familiarity with the application of technoeconomic and life cycle analysis to production of microalgae for biofuels.
Experience with algae growth in photobioreactors.
Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500.
