Los Alamos National Laboratory Learning Specialist 2/3 (Learning Managment System Course Manager) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Develop and maintain compliant trainingand supporting documentation following the systematic approach to training. Deliver dynamic instruction to an audience of LMS administrators focusing on management of learning items, curricula, and assignment profiles. Design compliant, engaging, and complex multimedia training for diverse audiences using established training analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) methods.

Learning Specialist 2 ($69,500-$110,300)

  • Synthesize training requirements into effective, visually compelling, and informative presentations.

  • Apply adult learning and training development practices and processes.

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to assure projects meet customer needs, regulatory drivers, and contractual requirements.

  • Work within the LANL Learning Management Systems (LMS) to setup, prepare, troubleshoot, and manage LANL eLearning products.

  • Provide guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.

  • Apply proficient software skills in applications such as Articulate StoryLine 360, Microsoft Office, and relevant Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Assist the group with other course documentation, delivery of instruction and eLearning development and additional duties, as needed.

  • This position will be a combination of hybrid and on-site.

  • Amount of on-site work is based on customer needs as identified by your manager.

Learning Specialist 3 ($83,900-$136,600)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level,

  • Apply in-depth understanding of adult learning and training development practices and processes.

  • Work with minimal direct supervision to accomplish designated tasks and coordinate activities with other training professionals.

  • Apply advanced software skills in applications such as Articulate StoryLine 360, Microsoft Office, and relevant Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Provides expert guidance in interpreting regulations and policies to ensure compliance.

  • Researches complex training and education issues and recommends sound, practical solutions.

  • Mentors, coaches, and trains other staff within the field.

What You Need

The ideal candidate will have advanced organizational and collaborative skills, a strong understanding of adult learning, the creative and technical skills to produce effective engaging training products, and a keen eye for design and aesthetics.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Expertise in professional communications and leading meetings with all levels of personnel, including external stakeholders and executive management, to provide high quality customer service.

  • Proven expertise in the design and development of online and live courses that are functional, informative, polished, and consistent with foundational instructional design considering alignment of educational objectives, learning activities, and assessments.

  • Ability to transfer knowledge effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Advanced knowledge of adult learning theory.

  • Demonstrated effective skills with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications within a diverse audience.

  • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate and resolve technical issues pertaining to training content.

  • Demonstrated excellence in managing multiple projects across multi-functional teams, expectations, and timelines, as it relates to live instructional delivery, course documentation, and eLearning instructional design and development.

  • Proven expertise in tracking and measuring program progression and prioritizing competing deadlines effectively.

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced operational environment.

  • State-of-the-art proficiency with common business, instructional design, Learning Management System software, and eLearning.

  • Demonstrated experience with Articulate 360, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite or similar software.

Education/Experience Learning Specialist 2: Positionrequires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience Learning Specialist 3: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 8 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experienced as an LMS administrator with training data management systems and related information data systems.

  • Basic knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities.

  • LANL Training Staff Qualification Program qualified (TSQP)

  • Knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 508 compliance and how it pertains to accessibility of web content.

  • Expertise in video editing and production, audio recording, graphic design or motion graphics, animation, web development (HTML), and JavaScript. Expertise with directing production of videos and photography.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
