The Information Sciences and Modeling group (A-1) is looking for a postdoctoral research associate working at the intersection of infectious diseases, statistics, and data science. The successful candidate will contribute to projects focused on increasing the accuracy of disease forecasting approaches through the exploitation of heterogeneous data streams, including sequence and clinical surveillance data. The postdoc is expected to work in a multidisciplinary environment, engaging in significant collaborative research efforts.

This position is part of A-1's Data Analytics Team. The Data Analytics Team performs basic and applied research focused on infectious disease modeling and forecasting, political instability modeling and forecasting, predictive analytics for national security applications, and large-scale data analytics. Our expertise covers statistics, machine learning, dynamical systems, graph theory, agent-based simulations, and data analytics. We ensure the scientific and technological validity of our approaches by working closely with physicists, mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, economists, remote sensing scientists, political scientists, and public health officials through interdisciplinary collaborations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven track record of innovative research, demonstrated through experience in infectious disease modeling or related field.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, supported by a strong publication record.

  • Expertise in handling large-scale data streams, such as sequence data, clinical surveillance data, or similar data streams.

  • A Ph.D. degree in one of the following fields: Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar field.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in epidemic modeling, infectious disease forecasting, and data analytics.

  • Proficiency in R or Python programming languages.

  • Experience in machine learning, spatial analysis, Bayesian inference, causal inference, Natural Language Processing, or multivariate regression.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. Starting salary for a new graduate is currently $94,500.
