What You Will Do
At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we solve national security challenges through simultaneous excellence! The Plutonium Capability Transuranic Waste Management group, Nuclear Process Infrastructure-6 (NPI-6) is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Manufacturing Manager 1 (MM1) and join our TA-55 TRU Operations Team. NPI-6 ensures safe, efficient, and compliant waste management generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), and the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB). The MM1 will work directly with programmatic and facility operations staff to manage activities throughout TA-55. Additionally, they will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, as well as develop and deliver improved, customer-focused, processes and procedures. They will serve as a lead supervisor and assist the first-line manager in the oversight of a robust workforce and manage multifaceted activities.
Primary duties of the MM1 may include but are not limited to:
Assists in building a cohesive, high performing team; directs the daily work activity to meet deliverables; and supervises the execution of work in alignment with the organization's vision, goals, and commitments.
Maintains full knowledge and understanding of facility operational requirements and works with the first line manager to ensure compliance, safety, security, quality and conduct of operations, engineering, maintenance, and training in the performance of work.
May be responsible for all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to; managing headcount, directing assignments, employee hiring and onboarding processes, providing continuous performance management and feedback to further develop staff including participation in annual performance discussions, identification of growth opportunities and ensuring proper team recognition and appreciation.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Regulation: Knowledge of business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities.
Skills/Expertise:
Knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: transuranic (TRU) and hazardous (RCRA) waste management; manufacturing, and technology; weapons component manufacturing; manufacturing quality and production control and/or program management; nuclear materials research, process development, and technology demonstrations.
Knowledge of and experience planning for and managing tactical execution of work.
Communication: Interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
Leadership: Experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams of technicians and/or professional staff in a technical environment.
Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in TRU waste operations.
Knowledge of and demonstrated application of DOE or LANL waste management regulations and requirements, waste administrative requirements, waste acceptance criteria, and waste certification requirements.
Familiarity or experience working in support of hazardous waste management and/or within a nuclear facility.
An active Q clearance with HRP.

While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

May work in areas involving high consequences for safety, e.g., high explosives, high power lasers, high magnetic fields, accelerators, high energy capacitor banks, gas guns, or X-ray systems.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
