UCLA Health Staff Research Associate in Los Angeles, California

Description

Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. With guidance and direction from the Principal Investigator, the Staff Research Associate (SRA 1) will assist in performing experimental studies to examine the neuronal basis of decision-making, including studies involving animal training and physiological recordings. The SRA will:

  • Perform neuroscience research involving in-vivo behavior techniques.

  • Manage transgenic mouse colonies, to include genotyping and transfers.

  • Train animals to perform a two alternative forced choice behavioral task; assemble reports of individual animal behavior.

  • Maintain accurate and legible laboratory notes/documents of all experiments in English.

  • Prepare solutions for standard laboratory procedures.

  • Work effectively in collaboration with a wide range of other laboratory personnel.

  • Perform euthanasia of mice by cardiac perfusion and prepare tissue for histology.

  • Perform data processing and assist in the analysis of results.

  • Provide assistance in management of laboratory inventory, maintenance and organization of supplies and equipment.

Please note that this is a full-time 3 to 4 month limited position and may convert to career.

Salary range: $25.75- $30.71 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven ability genotyping, Western blotting, and immunohistochemical techniques.

  • Proven ability in preparing media, buffers and chemical solutions.

  • Proven ability in PCR, including primer design.

  • Skill in preparing animal tissues for histology.

  • Knowledge of isolating and maintaining neuronal cells and cell lines.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Strongly preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Physiological Sciences, or equivalent.

  • Skill in cutting tissue sections on a cryostat and sliding microtome, and vibratome.

  • Skill in performing conventional and confocal microscopy.
