Responsibilities
As a Public Services Director, you will be responsible for various complex professional, technical, and administrative tasks. These include planning, organizing, and directing public works and public utilities activities, such as water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance and repair; water and wastewater treatment plant; streets and property maintenance and repair; solid waste management; and electric distribution system maintenance and repair.
An employee in this class plans, organizes and directs the work of employees engaged in various municipal operations and services. The employee provides technical advice and assistance to the Town Administrator and the Council in improving utilities and streets and ensures municipal work crews utilize modern, safe, effective, and efficient practices. Work also includes contract management, handling citizen issues, department budget, and personnel administration. The employee represents the Town to a wide variety of citizens. Work is performed independently and in coordination with the Town Administrator and other Town officials. The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments. The employee is also subject to hazards such as working close to heavy equipment, loud noises, electrical currents, and oils and working in narrow or enclosed spaces. The employee may also be subject to the final standards of OSHA blood-borne pathogens.
