City of Loveland Part-Time Fire Inspector in Loveland, Colorado

Description

Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector confirms compliance with plan review and fire code requirements for Loveland Fire Rescue Authority. This position conducts inspections of new buildings under construction, building modifications, tenant finishes, existing structures, and fire protection systems. Position will close to applicants on: Monday, October 21st at 12 noon M.S.T.

The salary range for this position is $31.92 - $47.88 per hour, with an anticipated hiring range of $31.92 – $39.90 per hour.

This is a part-time position that will work 20 hours per week. Typical work schedule is between the hours of 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

Specifically, this position:

  • Performs inspections of buildings, including fire protection and other relevant systems, in existing buildings, and new construction inspections if experience and qualifications are adequate, to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.

  • If experience and qualifications are adequate, coordinates final acceptance testing and inspections with builders, developers, and contractors, relative to construction features, fire protection and alarm systems, and other associated code requirements.

  • Coordinates safety visits and existing-building inspections with building and business owners to ensure code compliance is achieved.

  • Ensures fire code requirements are met to provide emergency vehicle access, water distribution systems in relation to fire flow delivery, and fire/life safety standards in new developments and/or structures in the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority jurisdiction.

The Fire Inspector must have:

  • Knowledge of principles of fire prevention, fire and smoke behavior, hazardous materials storage and handling systems, fire suppression and detection technology, and comprehensive fire protection engineering principles.

  • The ability to utilize the International Fire and Building Codes and NFPA Standards when performing job functions.

  • The ability to read and interpret complex plans, maps and specifications.

  • The ability to analyze and resolve final acceptance testing and inspection deficiencies in accordance with locally adopted codes and standards.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

Preferred Experience (one or more of the following):

  • Fire Inspection experience;

  • Fire Protection Systems experience (inspecting, designing, and/or installing);

  • Fire Service experience

Licensing/Certifications

  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record

  • NIMS 100, 700 required within 6 months of hire date

  • International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I certification preferred

  • Or must be obtained within 12 months of hire date

  • State of Colorado Fire Inspector I required within 12 months of hire date
