Position Description:

Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.

Major/Essential Functions:

Supervises other staff in the business office. Counsels faculty, staff, and students on proper procedures for procurement and travel. Prepares internal financial reports for the school's departments and centers and coordinates with the Texas Tech Law School Foundation. Prepares the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Dean's office. Provides preliminary analyses and reports as requested for budget hearings and budgetary requests.

Develops procedures and processes as necessary to enable smooth and timely finance and administrative functions of the school, including ePafs, EOP's, Travel, Purchase Orders, Pcards, Direct Pay, IV's, DDIS, JV's, Cost Transfers, Budget Revisions. Provides financial analyses, reports, spreadsheets as necessary to support the fiscal operations of the school. Prepares ad hoc financial reports as necessary.

Assists Student Bar Association and student organizations with purchases and reimbursements as well as maintains spreadsheets for SBA's Budgeting and operating process.

Monitors fund balances, revenues and expenses for the school. Monitors the payroll process for the school. Helps resolve payroll errors and revenue and expense errors. Provides financial and business leadership for the school. Assists with fiscal and budgetary decision making to help determine the best use of the school's financial resources within restrictions set forth by the state, institution, donors or other parties. Prepares financing reporting as required by the American Bar Association, AALS, and as required by the institution and other stakeholders. Provides periodical reports of the school's financial standing to the Dean, senior staff, and faculty. Assists with scholarship funding decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Banner Sunguard System, Cognos Reporting Tool, and Excel spreadsheets.

  • Knowledge of various fund types, requirements and restrictions used in the higher education setting.

  • Knowledge of Texas Tech University Operating Policies and Procedures.

  • MBA in Accounting or Finance, CPA.
