TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Transportation Engineer I or II, Traffic Safety Office (Lubbock District) in Lubbock, Texas

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:The essential duties for a Transportation Engineer I or II include:Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects. Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.Designs, installs, maintains, and repairs all traffic management computer/communication/video systems and traffic signals, radios, and railroad crossing equipment. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and to provide technical support.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations. Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems or other traffic related items. May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks. Meets with law enforcement agencies and city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions. Oversees and monitors Community Traffic Safety Programs, activities involving preparation of the District Highway Safety Plan and the Traffic Safety Office. Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for the State.Additional duties for a Transportation Engineer II include:Acts as a liaison with divisions, MPOs, cities, counties and other governmental entities concerning traffic managementand traffic safety projects.Oversees and performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warranttraffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Responsible for Traffic Engineering operations.Responsible for Traffic Safety operations.Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plansDevelops traffic engineering and traffic management system policies, procedures and standards.
