Under direction of Audit Management, the senior auditor is responsible for the timely execution of regulatory issue validation to verify the sustainable remediation activities completed by the first and second lines of defense in accordance with the remediation plan. The senior auditor is expected to actively participate on the internal audit team responsible for the planning, execution, and reporting results of the issue validation work. In addition to issue validation work, the senior auditor may be assigned to other audit work and be expected to actively participate in audit planning, execution, reporting, and issue follow-up.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop test plans to assess design, operating effectiveness, and sustainability of management’s remediation efforts

  • Participate in audit planning, risk assessments, tests of design and operating effectiveness, and reporting

  • Prepare high quality workpapers to support design, operating effectiveness, and sustainability conclusions; these workpapers should comply with Internal Audit’s methodology

  • Engage with the internal stakeholders including 1LoD and 2LoD business partners

  • Provide effective challenge to management on the design, operating effectiveness, and sustainability of management’s remediation efforts and control environment

  • Use available technical resources and tools to research and enhance work product and meet departmental goals

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree with a major in economics, statistics, finance, accounting, technology, business administration or related are area preferred  

  • 3-5 years’ experience in audit, risk management, risks and controls, technology auditing, credit risk management, and / or project management.   

  • Superior time management skills, with ability to effectively prioritize  

  • Strong leadership skills including demonstrated ability to learn quickly with increased independence

  • Strong process improvement skills  

  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills  

  • Track record of successfully working in cross-function teams  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to effectively present information within and across team both verbally and in writing  

  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint  

  • Exposure to the regulatory landscape of the banking industry, experience with large US or foreign banking organizations a plus  

  • Risk data and/or modeling, model risk management experience an asset

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $90,000 - $120,000 for the New York, New York market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
