Stantec Community Development team are seeking to appoint Civil Engineering Team Leader for our office in Mackay. In this role you will manage the civil design and documentation on a variety of urban, land and subdivision projects in both the public and private sectors, across an extensive regional client portfolio. You will have an aptitude for resolving design constraints, coordinate projects, interface with various discipline and deliver projects within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will manage an existing experienced team of engineers, designers and drafters who are passionate about making a difference to the local area and being part of the exciting growth of this region. You will have the opportunity to work on variety of projects, play a key role in delivering our projects from master planned communities and high-density developments through to infrastructure projects for Council and government. We hold a strong industry reputation off the back of successfully delivered projects.

With the support of the Regional Business Leader, you will be responsible for the growth of secured and unsecured backlog and supporting the team in delivering projects to the highest possible standards.

About the role

Ideally you will have consulting engineering experience working within the community development team of engineers, designers and drafters.

You will be client facing, responsible for project management / technical design reviews, and have the ability to strategically position the office for future works. You will represent the company externally to clients and play a senior and active role in building these relationships.

You will enjoy a diverse role, working on critical projects, managing and mentoring resources, business development and building a high-performing team culture.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Design, coordination and project management of urban, land and subdivision projects, from feasibility through to construction.

  • Prepare technical reports and specifications.

  • Provide technical expertise to clients and support projects through other offices as required.

  • Manage projects including scheduling and the preparation of project budgets.

  • Coordination between disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.

  • Undertake and manage site surveillance and provide Certification of site works.

  • Contribute to the development of Stantec’s knowledge and skills in civil engineering including planning, design, and construction.

  • Maintain existing and develop new, trusted relationships with key clients throughout the region

  • Assist in the securing and delivery of projects by way of business development and client relationship management.

What you will bring to the team

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design and the delivery of projects within urban, land or subdivisions

  • Experience and a sound understanding of current civil engineering technologies, including design, modelling and delivery

  • A passion for design documentation, assessment and analysis of technical data and imparting knowledge, skills, and experience through the provision of professional development in others.

  • Excellent project management skills and ability and willingness to mentor junior team members

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing

  • Demonstrated professional judgement and commercial acumen, including identifying, assessing, evaluating, and solving problems to brief and budget.

  • Produce concise and accurate reports, technical specifications, design calculations, drafting briefs and mark-ups.

  • Team leadership experience
