Southern Company Specialist, Maintenance in Macon, Georgia

Job Summary:

This position is responsible to inspect, maintain and repair equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, and to assist Plant Operators and Technicians to maintain facility operations in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. The Maintenance Specialist will also perform operator duties when assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Functional Expertise:

•Responsible for inspection, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, including pipeline maintenance and responding to One Call locates.

•Must develop a good working knowledge of assigned facilities and systems and be able to schedule and perform various repairs to equipment as needed.

•Must become familiar with facility operations and competently fill in as Plant Operator when needed, following the facility shift schedule.

•Legibly, and accurately record equipment and facility operations, and prepares required reports completely and accurately

•Comply with Company policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations.

•Performs scheduled compliance and/or maintenance checks and/or work orders on equipment under his/her responsibilities or assignments.

•Responds appropriately to abnormal operating conditions in order to maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.

•Responds appropriately to Emergency Response situations and performs first responder duties in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan.

Business Acumen:

•Must be competent with coordinating major equipment or facility repairs and/or inspections by third parties, as qualified and assigned.

•Strives to promote continuous improvement of maintenance and operating practices so as to continually enhance safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facilities.

•Identify and report operational issues that may impact facility reliability or efficiency to peers and supervision.

•Identify and report operational issues that may impact compliance with regulations or company policies and procedures.

Engagement:

•Must be a team player, able to work and communicate effectively with peers, direct supervision and management.

•Assists other site personnel in performing various maintenance and/or inspection tasks as requested. Utilizes the above opportunities as a means to increase self-knowledge and expertise regarding site equipment and the safe, efficient and reliable operations of the facilities.

•Must be self-motivated and hold self-accountable for job duties and responsibilities

•Collaborates with peers, supervision, internal groups, consultants and contractors to improve operations and maintenance processes and practices.

•Promotes good relations with all customers (i.e., commercial, gas control, gas supply, other operating facilities, interconnecting pipelines, management, etc.) and cooperates with other personnel and/or departments.

•Participates in Company or vendor sponsored training programs, cross-training assignments, job shadowing, and/or the Company’s educational assistance program to improve self-knowledge and skills.

•Effectively collaborates with others to plan, schedule, measure and evaluate work activities to ensure that facilities continually operate safely, reliably and efficiently

•Works with peers to continually improve system efficiency and reliability.

•Strives to continually maintain and operate facilities in an efficient and reliable manner by utilizing knowledge of facilities, peer knowledge/expertise, new technology, best practices, and/or tools available to maximize system efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

High School Graduate or GED

Valid state driver’s license

Preferred:

Associates degree in technical, process, or plant operator specialties

Related Work Experience:

Required:

General mechanical aptitude

Preferred:

Gas operations and/or process experience, or equivalent experience

Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases or liquids, and high-pressure systems.

Knowledge of the principles internal combustion engines, and gas processing equipment.

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required:

Must be able to pass DOT Operator Qualification requirements for specific covered tasks.

Proficient understanding and use of the English language.

Ability to prepare written and electronic reports in a clear and concise manner.

Good computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, MS Outlook, etc.).

Ability to interact effectively with others

Motivated, with good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

Mathematical proficiency

Knowledge of pipeline, compression, process, LNG, LP, and/or storage field operations.

Basic knowledge of gas handling/processing equipment.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

The incumbent works in a plant and field environment, in all types of weather conditions.

May be required to work shift schedules that may vary according to facility operational requirements.

Lift and carry medium to heavy weight items.

Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working.

Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently.
