UW-SYSTEM-CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION Engineering Specialist in MADISON, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job ID:21105 Engineering Specialist POSITION SUMMARY This is an advanced technical and management position responsible for assisting in the development and protection of the over 65 million gross square foot valued at over \$10 billion of the University of Wisconsin System facility infrastructure, and reports to the Director of Engineering. This position is an essential part of a team of professionals that work with a high degree of independence within the framework of state laws and university policies. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES This position has responsibility for leadership in electrical engineering aspects of master, long-range and biennial facilities planning, and assists in developing engineering and energy related policies and standards for the University of Wisconsin System. Included are activities in planning, identification and evaluation of alternative concepts and problem solving, cost estimates for a wide variety of facility power supply and distribution, energy management, energy conservation, code compliance, lighting, fire alarm, security and telecommunication issues and projects, and project programming. It involves representing the university system during project design and providing general engineering consulting and technical assistance to all university system institutions. There is direct participation in developing the biennial capital budget and agenda materials for monthly Board of Regent and State Building Commission meetings. By providing strategic and technical planning direction to System executives and other individuals of authority, this position has significant influence in determining the quality and quantity of facilities supporting the academic mission of each institution. This position has authority to settle disputes in electrical engineering and related issues within the university system. Responsibilities include the following key activities: Biennial capital budget development and implementation, to include providing technical support and services to develop, assist and evaluate project requests to be included in the budget. Electrical systems and energy management technical support, to include providing technical Support to campuses, office staff and UW management; problem solving and troubleshooting as needed during all phases of projects. Long range technical planning, to include promoting ideas, concepts and strategies supporting comprehensive master planning to create quality learning environments serving a total academic process which inspires intellectual pursuit and supports individual UW-System institution missions. Administrative policies, procedures, and program management, including assisting in developing and implementing the administrative and operating structure for capital planning and budgeting in the University of Wisconsin System. WORK LOCATION The office location is 780 Regent St., Madison, WI. This position may be eligible to work a hybrid schedule, which would include a negotiated number of days working in the office and days working remotely. Demonstrated ability to find solutions to complex technical problems. Demonstrated skills in working with people with varied backgrounds and levels of technical experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Degree in either electrical, architectural engineering or similar Licensed as a professional engineer or electrical designer in the State of Wisconsin.
