U W-MADISON DIV. CONTINUING STUDIES Research Specialist Konopka Lab in MADISON, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Konopka laboratory focuses on the biology and metabolism of aging, with an emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. The Konopka Lab uses pharmacological and genetic strategies to evaluate fundamental mechanisms involved in aging and age-related disease. This Research Specialist will serve as the point person to lead experiments to evaluate mitochondrial energetics in ex vivo samples collected from animal and human studies. This position may also perform fundamental laboratory techniques such as western blotting and qPCR and will lead tissue processing to prepare samples for subsequent, multi-omic approaches (i.e., RNA sequencing, metabolomics, proteomics, etc.). Last, this position will assist with biosafety and IACUC protocol updates and annual reviews. The selected candidate will work in a team environment that includes the PI, a postdoctoral fellow, clinical research coordinators, and/or graduate students. Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision. 20% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area.
