Oconomowoc Residential Programs Special Education Supervisor in Madison, Wisconsin

The Richardson School is now accepting applications for a Special Education Supervisor! The Special Education Supervisor (SES) is responsible for the coordination of all educational activities for the assigned School including student assessments and placement, assisting with curriculum selection and implementation, development and maintenance of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and student transition/discharge. Policies, practices and leadership style facilitate the development of actions that are aligned with the philosophy, goals and direction of TRS and MyPath and support the delivery of premier educational services.

The Richardson School provides a year-round school option for local districts to access for children with special needs. Typically, these children have been dually diagnosed with developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders.

  • Works collaboratively with the Day School Director to manage classroom assignments and groupings.

  • Provides feedback in the identification, use, implementation and evaluation of the educational curriculum for TRS (or individual location). Content meets required guidelines and best meets the needs of the students as outlined in their IEPs. Directs all education staff in expansion and application of curriculum selected.

  • Assists Special Education Teachers as needed in using research based instructional and learning strategies to obtain, prepare or modify educational materials appropriate to needs, lesson plan review and coaching.

  • As needed, the SES may demonstrate, co-teach, co-plan and/or conduct classroom instruction with the Special Education Teachers either for direct learning by students or for demonstrating effective intervention and teaching practices that emphasizes differentiated and personalized learning instruction across disciplines with a goal to address the needs of students and implement effective teaching and learning practices.

  • Monitors and reviews all lesson plans to ensure that all necessary skills and content are strategically taught and students’ progress through the curriculum with an emphasis on mastery of relevant standards.

  • Monitors school and other program enrollments and provides leadership, program visibility, and community networking to maintain high enrollment, to include community/family endeavors. Maintains awareness of federal, state, and county initiatives that impact business sustainability and growth. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships within and between all MyPath locations, family, school districts and other referral sources and individuals within the community.

  • As a teacher leader, the SES assists in the development and facilitation of professional learning opportunities that promote achievement for all students. The SES designs this professional development for administrators, teachers, and support staff in areas including curriculum, instruction, assessment, classroom management, technology, and working with students with challenging behaviors.

  • Monitors and reviews student, parental and district complaints and grievances, investigations and reports of abuse, neglect and misappropriation following TRS/Company policy and applicable state/federal regulations. In cooperation with the Day School Director, develops plans to address possible performance, quality and safety concerns partnering with human resources as needed.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Maintains current active Teaching License in Special Education from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge in curriculum development and implementation as well as child welfare services required.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and respect through appearance, interactions with others and engagement; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and maintains self-composure and self-control under stressful conditions; and demonstrates actual or potential supervisory skills and leadership.
