POSITION PURPOSE

Supervise the activities of a department responsible for construction, modification, maintenance, repair, and operation of the Company's electrical transmission and distribution system.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises effective and efficient use of the resources for construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Company's electric distribution system, with emphasis on safety, customer satisfaction, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.

  • Prepares weekly crew schedules and daily assignments of crews for specific jobs in the most efficient and economical manner to best match crew capabilities to job requirements.

  • Enforces compliance with existing Company policies, procedures, practices, etc., as well as all governmental rules, regulations, and codes which apply. Instructs subordinates to be cognizant of environmental responsibilities, both corporate and individual.

  • Establishes and enforces work standards and operating procedures to ensure jobs are completed in a timely manner and in conformance with established specifications, industry regulatory requirements, and safety practices and procedures.

  • Communicates with customers on the nature, duration, and cause of service interruptions, answering questions and resolving customer problems or complaints referred by crew leaders as necessary.

  • Performs supervisory standby and emergency call-out responsibilities during off-duty hours.

  • Instructs field crew on system switching in conjunction with Distribution Operations Center.

  • Actively participates in and supports the department's safety program by promoting a positive safety culture, enforcing safety rules, and attending and participating in regular safety meetings.

  • Works closely with Engineering Department personnel in coordinating all planning activities and developing job orders.

  • Supervises contractor personnel operating in the vicinity of existing facilities, whether energized or non-energized, and enforces compliance with all safety practices and procedures outlined by the Company.

  • Uses the automated KloudGin system to complete and execute service orders assigned to the Electric Construction Operations Department. Follows up on orders as necessary to assure customer satisfaction and/or address customer issues.

  • Participates in resolving "in-field" problems that arise from unknown entities. This includes meeting with governmental representatives to correct situations that arise during installation of our facilities. Contacts may also occur with customers and contractors depending on each situation.

  • Provides backup coverage for other Gas Operations and Electric Operations supervisory staff during absences or vacations.

  • Performs administrative duties which include, but are not limited to, preparing and disseminating daily crew schedules, documenting inspection and maintenance programs, assisting with estimating deposit requirements for new customers, completing annual performance appraisals, reviewing job orders completed by field crews, and preparing purchase requests for material and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Must have a high school education or equivalent.

  • At least three years of experience in construction, operation, and maintenance of electric utility systems.

  • Demonstrated leadership capacity.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of and able to learn rules, codes, laws, and regulations related to the electric industry.

  • Must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in resolving day-to-day operating problems.

  • Able to communicate via two-way radio using standard protocols.

  • Must be customer oriented with the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and tact in resolving customer issues.

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, government representatives, employees, and the general public.

  • Must be able to interpret project plans, blueprints, maps, and diagrams to determine the equipment, materials, and supplies needed to complete the project.

  • Sound organizational skills and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Knowledge of and able to apply principles and practices of employee supervision, evaluation, and training.

  • Working knowledge of the IBEW labor contract.

  • Familiar with tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for installing, maintaining, and repairing the electric transmission and distribution system.

  • General knowledge of standard utility practices.

  • Must have and maintain a valid motor vehicle or commercial driver's license.
