Vanguard Senior Manager, Fixed Income Fund & Investment Operations in Malvern, Pennsylvania

The Senior Manager, Fixed Income Fund & Investment Operations leads a team responsible for providing investment operations support and service to the Fixed Income Group in Investment Management group (IMG). This role manages and oversees the strategic direction of the Fixed Income Investment Operations Service team, including overseeing external vendors, managing budgets, strategic and financial business planning, and reporting of key operational metrics. This role also manages cross-divisional relationships and supports efforts to improve fund and investment performance through the implementation of new processes and technology.

The Senior Manager:

  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

  • Accountable for overall management of regional Investment Operations Service department supporting the Fixed Income Group (FIG).

  • Leads strategic planning efforts, establishes short- and long-term goals, and leads strategic planning efforts for the team.

  • Develops and implements strategic operational plans in support of departmental objectives; communicates progress through key metrics and ensures key deliverables are met. Leverages industry and investment knowledge to recommend improvements to existing processes.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships across the Investment Management Group (IMG) and FIG, Enterprise Investment Services (EIS), and other key stakeholders.

  • Engages service providers to ensure adherence to SLA’s and drive technology improvements.

  • Oversees, manages, and owns the resolution of key initiatives. Contributes to the development of the department business planning and budget.

  • Collaborates with senior leaders across the department and division to determine growth objectives and opportunities. Establishes metrics to determine effectiveness and progress.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What it takes:​

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence and persuade all levels of the organization.

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience, with at least three years of investment management, investment operations, or other related experience. Supervisory and leader of leaders experience preferred.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Accounting or Finance degree preferred. Graduate degree preferred.

  • CFA or other financial designation preferred.

Preferred Skill Set:

  • Strong leadership and change mgmt. experience

  • Heavy Relationship Mgmt.

  • Deep Fixed Income or Equity background

  • Middle or Back Office experience
