Position title: Category Management Associate – Sharpie, Yankee Candle

Location: Manchester area (Cheadle), or Birmigham area (Lichfield)

Reports to: Sr. Category Manager

Contract type: Permanent, full-time, hybrid working system

Your Role & Team in a Nutshell

As a Category Management Associate, you will support the growth of our product categories and contribute to our customers’ success in the UK and Ireland cluster. In collaboration with the Senior Category Manager, you’ll dive into market trends and data, manage product selections, and work with various teams. Your goal is to enhance sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Your insights from data analytics will shape our product strategies, pricing, and promotions. Together, we’ll drive informed decisions to optimize our assortment and engage our customers.

You’ll be part of a dynamic team of three, working with brands like Sharpie, PaperMate, Parker, Yankee Candles and others.

We will help you achieve your goals and develop by providing regular feedback and access to online training courses.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis: examine industry and consumer data to spot trends and apply these findings to shape strategies for product categories over the long term.

  • Product Range Selection: suggest pricing, promotions, and product placements to boost sales and profits within assigned categories.

  • Customer Relationship: nurture relationships with customers to achieve successful implementation of recommendations.

  • Products Phase-Out: devise strategies for phasing out underperforming products in assigned categories.

  • Teamwork: work alongside marketing and commercial teams to create strategies and tactics, drawing on syndicated data and consumer insights.

  • Supporting Business Management: handle segment-specific requests and coordinate information sharing, track and report on category performance, proposing actions when necessary, advise on product assortment and prioritisation.

  • Customer Stories: integrate category knowledge and innovation into discussions, partner with Category Development to convert expertise into effective customer engagement and sales strategies.

What You’ll Need

Minimum:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role and knowledge of Category Management, marketing philosophies, tools, and processes.

  • Good command of MS Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Familiarity with syndicated data, measures, and software (e.g., NPD, Nielsen, GfK, Circana, Consumer Panel, etc.) as well as space management principles and software (e.g., JDA, Spaceman, etc.).

  • Willing to travel 10-20% of the time.
