Our Sustainable Water Management Team are seeking Consultant and Senior Flood Risk Modellers and Hydrologists to join our existing national fluvial and pluvial modelling team. Focussing on the delivery of flood risk management and mapping projects you will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of infrastructure projects in the highways, rail, energy, nuclear, development, flood risk management sectors as well as supporting standalone mapping and modelling studies.
Your new role, what’s involved?
Our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team work together to deliver hydraulic modelling and hydrology studies to support projects from a diverse range of sectors.
As part of our core team you will help drive the delivery of key projects, and you will get support and mentoring from senior colleagues and work with technical flood risk modelling lead specialists. You will have the opportunity to develop in client facing roles to present the outcomes of your work. We will work with you to develop your specialist knowledge and experience, and mentor you towards Chartership (typically with CIWEM).
Key responsibilities:
Provide technical delivery for fluvial and pluvial modelling projects including experience using flood modelling software e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HECRAS or ICM
Preparing flood hydrology studies using recognised UK based methods (e.g. FEH, Statistical, ReFH) for often complex studies (small catchments, permeable, urban, complex data)
Preparation of technical reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders
Mentoring and technical development of more junior colleagues in fluvial and pluvial modelling
Provide self-checking of your technical work, and checking work from the technical team, to ensure technical quality
Input into the preparation of new work proposals by supporting scoping and estimation of effort
Undertaking client and stakeholder liaison
Data management
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
Proven track record in undertaking fluvial and pluvial hydraulic modelling
Knowledge of UK hydrology including flood estimation methods
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
Commitment to work towards an appropriate level of membership with a relevant professional body
Desirable:
Relevant experience of delivering infrastructure projects or working with local authority/national government
Interest in building client relationships to support project delivery and business growth
Wider experience in: GIS; FCERM studies; Flood Risk Assessments; knowledge of UK flood risk policy (NPPF and TAN15); Project Management.
